This blog about books for female entrepreneurs isn’t your normal, “grow your marketing plan to draw in your potential client”, “how to make six figures”, “ways to grow your team”, or  “how to hire a VA’, blah blah blah.

This is a resource for you to create balance in your life outside work, to get control of your mind when you feel like your problems are taking you down, and for the female entrepreneur that has a spiritual side. When I say spiritual I mean the gal that believes in getting grounded when life is happening too fast, to love yourself when no one else seems to love you, and to find purpose outside the office.

As my husband sweetly makes fun of me by saying, “I am a walking self help book.” … he’s kind of right. I am one that loves a book that leaves me with change and just feeling like I can make a difference. Outside of reading I am a personal coach on mindset and confidence, I have a passion for life, and my spirit animal is a golden retriever.

I have personally read each and every one of these books below and really believe that part of being a business owner is living a balanced life. Here are the 10 best books for female entrepreneurs (spiritually and mentally).

Book #1- The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor

Who it’s best for:

Trying to hold in my excitement for you guys on this book. I can’t say more good things about this book, not only is it backed by scientific research and data (for my data gals) but it’s filled with real life examples on how to make choices and life decisions in a way that leads us to happiness.

What is the Happiness Advantage? The Happiness Advantage is a psychological theory that draws a connection between personal happiness and professional success. This idea proposes that the happier people are, the more successful they’ll be. This book gives a new perspective on happiness and how its achieved, rather than saying you will be happier WHEN you make more money, or WHEN you are CEO. This book at its core is about how to lead a happier, fulfilled life STARTING with being happy, and letting the rest fall into place. Let me know what you think in the comments below. 🙂

Book #2- The 4 agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

Who it’s best for:

This book really goes hard on how to live a better life and I know this is a blog on suggested books for female entrepreneurs, this book is great for anyone at any part of their lives. This book is easy to read, filled with great resources and tools and support on how to blend these principles into our lives immediately.

The 4 Agreements that This book goes over are:

  1. Be Impeccable with Your Word
  2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
  3. Don’t Make Assumptions
  4. Always Do Your Best

As most of the books on this list are about bettering your life and mindset, this book is one that is an absolute must and for those wanting a read that is going to be easy, impactful, and to the point. This book really spoke to me in so many ways:

– Taught me how to love myself more.

– How to not let everything get to me

– Let your past relationships not define you

– That healing is all part of the journey

Book #3- Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty

One, thank you Jay Shetting for starting this book! Two, this is what inspired me to change my career from Digital Marketing to coaching those on the mindset and confidence.

This book is dense, and what I mean by dense… It is filled with exercises, tools, real life experiences, stories, examples, and resources. You name it, this book is great for the female entrepreneur just starting their journey of growing in all aspects of their life, and not just in business.  This book is about Jay sharing his experience when he was a monk and how we can all live more “monk-like” in our daily lives.

This book is special to me because it really taught me how to think beyond my past, and to take action with my limiting beliefs, and how to create my true purpose. I definitely had to take my time reading this book and suggest you do the same, as this is filled with so much abundance to better our life with peace, happiness, and purpose.

Book #4- The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

Who it’s best for:

If only I knew about this book when I was constantly worrying about my future and holding onto my past and why things happened the way they did. The author hits a homerun with his powerful message that all we have is NOW. It’s true, all we have is now, and yesterday is gone, and we can’t change the past. This book is for my female entrepreneur looking to live mindfully and intently by living in the present moment.

Running our businesses can cause an extreme amount of anxiety, stress, and pain, this is a book for women entrepreneurs looking for tools and insight on how to subdue these topics and get out of their heads of the daily grind. It is time we take control of our minds and use that energy by focusing on the present moment!

Book #5- Spiritual Practices For the Brain by Anne Kertz Kernion

Who it’s best for:

Most of these books are about mindset and developing ourselves to be better business women, this book is different from any other book on this list. This book is for my women entrepreneurs that need actionable steps and exercises. Each chapter includes simple practices to try that are friendly and readable. Even the busiest of readers can find time to do what she suggests in the first chapter, and that is breathing. “Consciously taking a few breaths grounds us in the moment and illustrates how breathing is a fundamental aspect of spirituality,” she says. “The Hebrew word ‘ruach’ means ‘breath’ or ‘wind’ or ‘spirit’ and is the animating dynamic of creation … when we breathe, we are infusing our lives with Spirit and paying better attention to our gift of life.”

Kernion goes over many different topics in her book; for a quick reference to each of her points, she ends with an alphabetical list of what she calls “Exercises for Brain Health.” Even doing a few of them will make a difference in how you feel – body and soul.

Book #6- Awareness by Anthony De Mello

Who it’s best for: Write out who it’s best for here [i.e. the freelancer, the CEO, etc.)

Then, write about the book. What makes it such a great book? Try to sell it to them while explaining about it! Did you have any key takeaways/read it yourself? Throw in the keyword books for female entrepreneurs.

A quote that reminds me of this book is, “I don’t sugar coat shit. I’m not Willy Wonka.” This book is for female entrepreneurs that want to get straight to the point and don’t need a book that is all rainbows and butterflies. This is your spiritual book with a high dose of tough love. I ask that you read this book with an open mind and challenge yourself to read this book with no expectations other than to be called out on everything you have learned growing up as a child and even into adulthood. This book is an easy read and not because it’s short, but because it’s organized into small chapters that are individually impactful.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from Anthony De Mello

What you are aware of you are in control of; what you are not aware of is in control of you. You are always a slave to what you’re not aware of. When you’re aware of it, you’re free from it. It’s there, but you’re not affected by it. You’re not controlled by it; you’re not enslaved by it. That’s the difference.”

“They didn’t teach me how to live at school. They taught me everything else. As one man said, ‘I got a pretty good education. It took me years to get over it.’ That’s what spirituality is all about, you know: unlearning. Unlearning all the rubbish they taught you.”

“How liberating it is not to depend emotionally on anything. If you could get one second’s experience of that, you’d be breaking through your prison and getting a glimpse of the sky. Someday, maybe, you will even fly.”

This book is one that I have re-read over and over and one that is the most lived on my bookshelf. No matter how many times you have read Awareness you will always take away something new.

Book #7- Let That Sh*t Go by Kate Petriw & Nina Purewal

Honestly the title says it all. Let that sh*t go. SOOOO many people are holding onto things that then lead to wasted time, thoughts and most importantly ENERGY. This book is all about teaching you peace of mind NO matter how busy you are, and if you’re doubting me on this book, then this is definitely for you. This book is perfect for the gal that over-schedules, that can’t say NO (without feeling guilty), and for the gal that simply has no balance. I fell in love with this book not just because of the title but because Petriw and Purewal share their personal life experiences and challenges that they faced and then provide reflections on using techniques.

Part of being an entrepreneur is creating a life balance and avoiding burnout. I have utilized this book so much in building my capabilities daily personally and professionally.

Book #8- Buy Yourself The F*cking Lilies by Tara Schuster

Who it’s best for: Write out who it’s best for here [i.e. the freelancer, the CEO, etc.)

Then, write about the book. What makes it such a great book? Try to sell it to them while explaining about it! Did you have any key takeaways/read it yourself?

I read this book and felt like I knew Tara (yes we are on first name basis terms)haha. She’s funny, real, relatable, and has some great advice on coping with shit that comes up in life.

Schuster shares her story of how she overcomes social influences, advances in her career, and survives just being a highly driven woman. This was a slow read for me as I highly enjoyed reading her whitty, sarcastic humor, as well as her openly sharing some lessons that were super shitty. This book is a unique one for my normal reading genre as I don’t often like reading documentary type books, but I surprised myself and hope you do too!

Book #9 Green Lights by Matthew McConaughey

Who it’s best for: Write out who it’s best for here [i.e. the freelancer, the CEO, etc.)

Then, write about the book. What makes it such a great book? Try to sell it to them while explaining about it! Did you have any key takeaways/read it yourself?

Ok not only am I obsessed with him in general for being a hunk of an actor but he stole my heart in How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days (and if not don’t judge me haha). This book isn’t your typical book for a female entrepreneur category but for me it was. I didn’t know how spiritual Matthew was until I found out that he wrote a book. Of course, I immediately went to amazon and ordered a copy.

Immediately the book starts out with Matthew and his old pictures and doodles, like you have opened up his journal and are reading the original. This book is engaging and really allows you to get to know Matthew on a personal level outside the movies and shares his life with you and lessons that he was taught along the way.

*Also I heard this book is 1000X better on audio. I loved that hard copy but next time around I’m definitely going to take the audio route.

So how does this relate to you, a female entrepreneur book? This book is about perseverance, family, listening to your gut, and most importantly looking at negatives  in life as future blessings. That although we are not sure why bad things happen to us, eventually there will be a good to come of it.

Book #10- The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday

Last but not least, one of my favorite books that I have read (almost) every day for the last 5 years. This isn’t a book of research, tools, advice, reflections, or opinions. This book is a daily read that gives you food for thought for the rest of your day. I have this when I am doing my morning routine (link mindful morning routine) while I drink my greens. Depending on where you are in your life journey the message will change. For example, I have read this book when I was single and working 2 jobs, I have read this book when I was in an abusive relationship, and then just recently the whole year leading up to getting married.

This book is one that I personally love to read as well as give as a gift. The passages are short and extremely thought provoking. One thing that I just started doing this time around is reading then doing a 2 minute journal reflection alongside the passage.

Would love to hear what you think of this one! Click here to see other gift ideas for female entrepreneurs.
